Designing Your Sunroom Enclosure

Sunroom enclosures can make your home more inviting and welcoming. They also add square footage and value to your home.

Sunroom enclosures that are constructed of glass are a great way to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors without the irritations of bugs, weather, etc. You will enjoy sitting in this sunroom during every month of the year watching flowers bloom, leaves turn, and snow fall. The glass is specially made to insulate the room to keep it comfortable no matter what the weather is like. When designing your sunroom enclosure you will want to consider the material used, the wall thickness, the height of the walls and the glass that you choose. Each of these elements can impact the price and the function of your sunroom enclosure.

Designing Your Sunroom

When choosing the sunroom enclosure that you want to construct, you want to choose lighter colors to help reduce the effect of heat on the structure. This can help to make it more energy efficient and can help keep the room’s temperature more constant. Lighter shades also work best with many different decorating styles, which will make it easier to choose the furnishings that you want and need. Softer color shades also make a room feel and look more open and larger. You can still have a color in a softer shade like soft pink, blue, or green if you want. You only want to consider using a lighter and softer shade to help make the room as relaxing and open feeling as possible. Adding a water element to your room can help to balance out the sunlight if you so choose. There are water fountains and more that you can choose from to enjoy the look of and the sound of.

Using water as a home for water-loving plants like lilies, duckweed, etc. If you want to add more life to your room, you can even include fish in your clear container to make your room feel brighter and livelier. Wicker or rattan furniture works great in any sunroom enclosure that you choose, because it tends to look more natural and welcoming. You will be amazed at the touches that you can add to your sunroom to make it feel warmer, inviting, and relaxing for you and for your family and friends.

Sunroom enclosures are a great way to give your home added value and added square footage at a cost that you can afford. By choosing the design and furnishings of your sunroom enclosure carefully you will create a room that you can enjoy and use for many different purposes.

How To Love Your Kidults By Letting Go

Are you a loving but hovering parent? Parents typically are raising fewer children today and have actively pursued an only-the-best policy from infancy on. So far, the twenty-something progeny of Helicopter parents have reaped the benefits from some of these advantages. Record numbers are attending college and the rate of teenage pregnancy is down.

So what's the beef? The question is where the Sandwich Generation should draw the line: between support and intrusion, encouragement and control, cheering from the sidelines or meddling in the game? Here are some tips to start you thinking about this fine line in the relationship with your kidults.

1. Giving up old habits of micromanaging is hard. When you watch, worry and hang on, youre giving your emerging adult children the message that you dont trust that they can be on their own.

2. Todays technology makes it almost too easy to stay connected. Establish a middle ground where you dont enable your adult children, yet they know youre there if they really need you.

3. Being too directive - about college applications, class registration, roommate disputes, job searches, dating partners - fosters dependency at a time when developing decision making skills is paramount to building self esteem.

4. While financial assistance for the necessities is a parents responsibility, it can have a pampering effect. Beginning in high school, encourage your children to get a part-time job and gain budgeting experience. Your goal is to prepare your kidults to live alone. If theyre unable to manage, boomeranging back home becomes the only option and the whole family pays the price.

5. Remember what it was like for you growing up? How did you use your personal strengths and become more self sufficient? Put some of these good ideas to work. Mentor your growing children but let them also learn for themselves.

Watching your children approach adulthood is a bittersweet experience, as you see your carefully crafted and longstanding identity slip away. As your family matures, you are faced with the challenges that come with letting go and beginning again in a new role.

After 20 years as a stay-at-home mom, Melanie was looking for work she could feel passionate about. I know I am beginning to plant the seeds of change. I am delighting in my separate life and listening to my inner voice. Until now Ive been a helpmate and mothering has been my job. Now Im looking for a career. Like Melanie, it may help to look at this transition in a different light, as you generate new opportunities for yourself.

College Football Betting Cues

A number of dicey factors, including the disparity between the nation's finest teams and those that still have struggling programs, the massive turnover of personnel each year, and the absurdly large number of teams involved, conspire to make college football betting far more difficult than its NFL counterpart.

With the college gridiron campaign currently in full swing, bettors would be wise to join experienced bookmakers in analyzing these three key factors:

The Gap Factor: The difference between upper echelon teams and middle to bottom teams can be enormous in college football betting. When you have that situation, certain oddsmaking criteria go out the window. For example, when you have an Ohio State or a USC on the road, the talent level versus an Indiana or an Arizona is going to be so wide that it will negate any home field advantage those teams may have. Of course, that goes for other college super powers such as a Florida or a Texas.

So, although most books use Power Ratings as a place to begin the pointspread making process, they're not nearly as reliable as they are for the NFL. For example, when Texas opened the season with a sparring partner in North Texas State, it was difficult to know what the right number was. Most books settled on 42 with the knowledge that the final score would depend on the mercy of the Long Horns. Alas, Texas showed little sympathy for its overwhelmed opponent, crushing North Texas State, 56-7 for the cover.

Given the above example--Louisville (-40) versus Temple, Sept. 9 was another--typically, bookmakers often add a touchdown or so to the raw numbers. Conversely, if you're using pure Power Ratings, they can be skewed if you're looking at scores such as 56-0, 62-0 and 72-7 heading into conference play. That's a different level.

The People Factor: From year to year you have a much greater turnover of personnel in the college game than you do in the NFL. That means there's a sharper learning curve each year for the colleges. You might get every bit of information about a team for two months but then every thought and every projection you had for that team could change after the first game. New players really can't be judged until bet takers see them in a game. Admittedly, the college football betting public is in the same boat.

So even though responsible bookmakers put in an incredible amount of work during the summer to get a feel for the college teams, they never know if their assessments are valid until the teams start playing.

The Numbers Factor: There's no doubt that it's easier to keep tabs on 32 NFL teams than it is to keep track of over 100 college squads. The NFL is all there for you, on television every weekend. In college football betting, the big games are there but most bet house personnel arent going to see a lot of Wyoming or Louisiana Tech on the tube. As oddsmakers, they need to be right on every game. The bettor only has to be right on a few games each week to be successful. Obviously, from the perspective of the bookmakers, it's a lot more dangerous posting numbers on 50 college games than it is on 16 NFL games.

There are a number of other differences between the collegiate gridiron game and its NFL cousin.

For one, in general, bettors are far more willing to lay big numbers in college than they are in the NFL. Its just the nature of the non-professional gambler to lay it rather than take it. Or as one prominent bookmaker pointed out, "You have to give them a minus or they don't know which side to take. When in doubt, they go with the favorite."

Scheduling also is more of a consideration in college football betting because the players lack maturity and are more susceptible to the emotional high of playing a rival, not to mention the letdown often associated with games preceding or following one of those contests.

Another thing to watch is the emergence of a betting glamour team. It's a team that gets hot early and captures the imagination of the college football betting public. LSU did that when it went 11-2 against the spread in 2003. Auburn was the hot team a year before that. Bookmakers are aware of these teams and are constantly adjusting the numbers, but until that team loses a couple of times, the public bets them every week.

Treat Yourself With Odessey Putters

Previously we discussed how your golf clubs and even the sunglasses you wear can determine the outcome of your golf game. Another typical item that is often overlooked is your putter. If you two putt every hole, that is 36 strokes out of your total score. WOW! Having a putter that youre comfortable playing with is very important. Do you want to become boss of the moss? If so read the below write up before selecting a putter.

Previously we discussed how your golf clubs and even the sunglasses you wear can determine the outcome of your golf game. Here is a great sporting site http://www.capecoral-golf.com. Another typical item that is often overlooked is your putter. If you two putt every hole, that is 36 strokes out of your total score. WOW! Having a putter that youre comfortable playing with is very important. Do you want to become boss of the moss? If so read the below write up before selecting a putter.

Odessey putters belong in the Callaway family of golf clubs. That alone tells you that they present some of the finest craftsmanship and highest levels of performance available on the market. Thats because Callaway has a long record of outdoing its competition with innovative designs and novel clubs, such as the world-famous Big Bertha.

To his amazement, however, instead of being just a fragile hickory-shafted club, these Hickory Stick clubs were reinforced with steel. Their core was filled with the metal, which endowed the clubs with power and steadfastness. Callaway was so smitten by these clubs that he actually didnt just buy a set. He bought half of the company. (This would explain why later Callaway would invest in quality clubs like Odessey putters.)

Up to this point weve discussed just one particular type of putter. Please do not feel like this is the only type of putter you should buy. This is just one review of one company that is famous for quality putters. There are several other companies that make high quality putters. Remember, it comes down to your comfort level. I personally play a very strange type of putter with a wide open stance. I will review this putter in upcoming articles.

The new company was called Callaway Hickory Stick USA. The firm spared no expense in attracting the finest talent in gaming design, research and development, and manufacturing. It quickly developed a name for itself as a producer of high-end golf clubs. The success inspired Callaway to buy out the rest of the company.

The legend of Callaway golf is not one of those 100 year old tales that start in Scotland. Instead, the story begins when Ely Callaway sold his former business, a vineyard, in 1981. At first Callaway leaned toward retirement, and like most men of his age, he took to golf to pass the time. One day, he was shopping in a golf shop in California when he spotted a pitching wedge that reminded him of the clubs of yesteryear.

The investment paid off enormously in the 1990s. It was all thanks to a little women called Big Bertha. Actually, she was no women if you were a golf ball, and she wasnt so tiny when compared to other drivers of the day. In fact, Big Bertha was the 1st stainless steel driver with a bigger head and more forgiving sweet spot.

Thanks to this club almost alone, Callaway became one of, if not the, top golf companies in the universe. This puts Odessey putters in very good company.

Well thank you for taking to time to read our review on Odessey putters. Remember how we discussed that comfort is the most important factor in choosing a putter. The majority of your strokes will be on the putting green and we hope to reduce that number by holing out more 1 putts. Oh yes, remember the most important thing, relax and enjoy your day.

Agents Recommend Using Local Car Insurance Agents

Are you looking for a good insurance for your vehicle to buy right now? If you are, then you might be included in the thousands of vehicle shoppers in the market who try their luck at finding the best car insurance coverage for them to buy through the Internet. However, car insurance agents do believe that this might not be the best thing. In fact, these agents highly recommend that vehicle shoppers better ask for assistance from local car insurance agents instead of the Internet.

Phillip Sanouvong is an owner of a website which offers vehicle information. Sanouvong explains, “Many people think it’s great to quickly click around and buy their policy on the Internet. But when they have a car accident, they are annoyed by all the 1-800 numbers, poor customer service, and the absence of a personal advocate on their side.” This may be exactly true. In fact, you may still continue buying your replacement Mercury car parts through the internet but you better leave purchasing a car insurance policy to the good hands of local car insurance agents.

According to these insurance agents, you do get lots of advantages if you deal directly with a local car insurance agent if you are going to buy car insurance for your trusty vehicle. You see, because you deal with the agent face to face, you are able to ask and point out gray areas so you can understand the whole deal better. Plus, with an insurance agent, you do not have to go through everything before you can explain your current situation. Since the insurance agent does already know about your history when it comes to your car and your car insurance policy, they can easily and quickly explain to you whatever may be bothering your mind.

Aside from these, you can also ask the assistance of these local car insurance agents come the time when there are changes to your vehicle or to who now holds the position as the primary driver of the vehicle. These local car insurance agents also offer, most of the time, discounts and other offers that would let you save much.

College Students Get a Jump on College Funding Strategy with NextStudent

College students all over the United States probably have just gotten into the swing of summer, whether that means finally perfecting their golf swing, getting that deep tan, or acing the most recent quiz in summer school. In the midst of these activities and especially at this time of year, it is important to regroup and begin planning financially for the new school year, according to NextStudent, a leading Phoenix-based education funding company.

NextStudent EFAs Help Students Understand Awards

The best place to start is to review all the correspondence students have received, especially their award letters. This is the document that lists such important information as the actual cost to attend school (includes tuition, fees, room and board), available need-based federal aid such as subsidized Stafford Student Loans (http://www.nextstudent.com/student-loans/student-loans.asp) , non-need-based aid such as unsubsidized Stafford Student Loans and Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS Loans), and the remaining out-of-pocket funds required.

Unfortunately, many times the award letters from colleges are somewhat difficult to understand, which may lead to confusion when students attempt to put together a strategic plan for funding their college dream. However, when students or their parents contact NextStudent, they will receive personal attention from their Education Finance Advisor. EFAs help students understand the types and amounts of fnancial aid for which they qualify, answer any questions, and then work with students to develop a strategy that best fits students needs.

Students Qualify for a Variety of Federal Funds

Students and their parents have an array of federal financial aid options to consider, depending on the type of aid for which they qualify. Some students may qualify for need-based subsidized Stafford Student Loans, whereby the government covers any interest on the student loan while a student is in school, the grace period following graduation, and any period of deferment. Other students may qualify for a non-need-based unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan, where interest is charged to the borrower during this same time period.

Another common type of federal aid is Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students, known as PLUS Loans (http://www.nextstudent.com/plus_loans/plus_loans.asp). These credit-based options allow parents to borrow funds to cover the education costs of their dependent children who attend college at least half-time as undergraduate students. Parents may borrow up to the cost of attendance, minus any other financial aid.

Frequently, parents find that they pay more for their childs education than they anticipated. NextStudent offers Private Student Loans (http://www.nextstudent.com/private_loans/private_loans.asp) to supplement federal student loan sources. Many parents prefer these unsecured credit-based student loans to borrowing against the equity in their homes or other options to cover the remaining out-of-pocket college costs. NextStudent offers generous borrowing limits, quick preapproval, deferred principal and interest on most student loans, and no prepayment penalties. Funds may be used for study abroad and distance-learning programs in addition to traditional schooling.

Financial Aid Myths Dispelled

One fairly common misconception is the belief that a student does not qualify for ANY federal aid. In fact, even a student who does not qualify for any SUBSIDIZED federal aid will almost certainly qualify for an UNSUBSIDIZED student loan. NextStudent Education Finance Advisors are equipped to help students and their parents understand just these types of issues so that they can put together a plan that best fits the needs of the borrower.

NextStudent believes that getting an education is the best investment you can make, and it is dedicated to helping you pursue your education dreams by making college funding simple. Galapagos Wildlife Paradise

The resident clown grabs a twig from the dirt, waves it in the air and then places it at the feet of the object of his affection. A blue foot raised, and then the other. Head held high, he unruffles the full stretch of his wings and whistles skywards. Even the quietest honk from his beloved brings satisfaction and justification for this comical dance, and it begins all over again.

But here on the volcanic islands of the Galapagos, some 600 miles from mainland Ecuador, the rather silly-looking Blue-footed Boobies are not the only ones to have cornered the market on ungainly, yet touching displays of courtship.

On another island a hopeful Waved Albatross couple engages in their own elaborate mating dance. Up, down, back and forth, the albatrosses face off and click their beaks together. Ah, it must be love! Nearby the dark form of a male Magnificent Frigate bird positions himself regally among the branches of a tree and balloons out a red bladder on his throat in an attempt to attract the ladies. The archipelago of 13 large islands and more than 100 smaller isles and islets offers many pure, white sandy shores and luminous, blue waters, but this is no place for sunning yourself on the beach all day. On the Galapagos from the Spanish name given to the Giant Land Tortoises that cruise the hills and undergrowth at their own leisurely speed you enter into what appears to be a cageless zoo, where the unusual array of creatures seem to literally line up for your enjoyment and you can expect to be continually, both visually and intellectually, stimulated by the distinctive beauty and natural history around you.

As you wander over boulders, lava flows, sandy beaches, brush, and more, you'll observe the unique and often unusual characteristics of island birds, reptiles, mammals, and fish species not found anywhere else in the world witnessing firsthand the subtleties of evolution that helped to inspire Darwin.

Storm petrels "walk" across water and graceful red-billed tropicbirds screech across the sky. The dragons of the Galapagos the marine iguanas clamber over each other and settle to sun themselves piled claw on head and spurting salt water from their nostrils.

Like the animals on land, the creatures that inhabit the waters around the Galapagos have not evolved with a sense of fear of humans, and your presence will seem no more than a curiosity to them.

As you explore some 50,000 square miles of marine reserve you will discover a realm where penguins swim in equatorial seas, elegant green sea turtles glide through cool currents and hammerhead sharks patrol the deeper waters.

Snorkeling mask to whiskers with sea lion pups, the only letdown will be the disappointed looks you'll get when you head to the surface for air. Maybe that'll be enough to convince you to take that diving course you've always thought about taking.

Plastic Surgery - Where's The "Plastic"?

Don't be looking for the Dupont Company sales rep the next time you visit a Plastic Surgeon's office because, despite popular belief, there's no "Plastic" in Plastic Surgery. The name is taken from the Greek word "plastikos" which means to "mold or shape."

Initially plastic surgery procedures were limited to facial and body reconstruction caused by accidents, trauma, illness or birth defects. As people began to see the purely cosmetic possibilities, many surgeons expanded their services to include facelifts, rhinoplasty (nose jobs), breast augmentation and liposuction.

It's important to know the difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery, especially if you're planning on having your insurance company foot the bill for your procedure.

Cosmetic surgery is performed solely to improve a person's outward physical appearance and self-esteem by correcting naturally occuring conditions that the patient is unhappy with. Cosmetic surgery may be performed by either a Plastic Surgeon or a Cosmetic Surgeon. Cosmetic surgery is generally not covered by health insurance.

Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed to correct or reduce the effects of congenital defects, accidental trauma injury, infections, tumors, and other health-related conditions. It's primary purpose is rarely to simply improve appearance except for extreme cases involving major facial or bodily damage resulting from automobile accidents, etc. Plastic Surgery may only be performed by a Plastic Surgeon.

In most cases insurance does pay for plastic surgery although there are some cases where your claim may be reduced or denied completely. That's why it is always important to coordinate the planned procedure with your health insurance provider BEFORE you get the procedure.

Often times the difference between whether or not your insurance company will cover the bill is the REASON for the procedure. If, for example, you are having your nose reshaped because you're unhappy with your profile -- no deal. You're on your own. However, get that same nose job because your doctor has diagnosed a chronic breathing problem that results in the potentially dangerous condition known as "Sleep Apnea" and you could end up with a new nose courtesy of your health insurance provider!

If you are planning to visit a Plastic Surgeon, keep the following items in mind:

Your plastic surgeon should be "Board Certified" by the American Board of Plastic Surgery;

If your doctor will be using anesthesia then make sure that only a licensed Anesthesiologist administers the medicine and make sure that the facility where the procedure is being performed is accredited by at least one of the following organizations:

American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities(AAAASF)

Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)

Although making sure that all of these certifications are present is no guarantee of a trouble-free experience, NOT having these certifications means that both the doctor performing plastic surgery, as well as the people who run the facility, have a serious lack of regard for your health and well being! You should NEVER use an uncertified plastic surgeon or facility. The risk is simply not worth it.

Tips for Selling Property Privately by PrivatePropertyMart.com

When you receive your For Sale board from PrivatePropertyMart.com you should erect it at the front of your property, or in a position so the passing pubic will see it.

Remember, the passing public could be the buyer of your property.

The most important thing to remember is first impressions. Buyers will immediately downgrade a property if the front garden (houses) or hallways (flats/apartments) are littered. It only takes a few minutes to pick up some rubbish and put it in the bin.

If you can afford to spend a little money before you sell then we would recommend you decorate the property both inside and out, maybe even replace some carpeting in the entrance hall and living space. Make sure the colours you choose are light, like white or cream.

Remember, you may not like those colours, but you are giving the property a light and airy feel. Go to a show house and think about the feel you get when you first walk in.

Another simple thing to do is put some fresh flowers in the living room.

If your bath/shower room has a shower curtain/door then give it a good clean or even replace it if you can.

Most people want to see a clean and bright property. Its that simple.

Viewings

When the viewers arrive have ready for them your properties details. It only takes a minute to printout a few and it gives a good impression.

When showing viewers around always let them walk into a room before you. They get a better impression of space when nobody is blocking the full view of the room.

Have a fresh pot of coffee on the boil or even a vanilla pod in the oven, or even a few scented candles, smells like these make a property feel more homely.

Before they leave get their details, name, address, telephone numbers. Also, ask them what their buying position is, do they have somewhere to sell, are they first time buyers or are they investors. Information like this can help you to decide on who to sell to if you have more than one offer. An investor or first time buyer can usually complete on a sale much quicker than someone who has still to sell their property.

Main points to consider

1. Keep the property clean and tidy.

2. Decorate if you can. (White or light cream colours)

3. Have some nice smells in the air for viewings, freshly brewed coffee, a vanilla pod in the oven, or some lit scented candles. Or even fresh flowers in the living area.

4. Take details about each viewer, name, address, contact detail and buying position.

The Problems With Payment Protection Insurance

Introduction

Late last year the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) issued a 'super complaint' to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) about Payment Protection Insurance (PPI).

The complaint concentrated on four keys areas, these being, consumers pay too much for PPI, some policies unreasonably exclude some come causes for claims, consumers are sometimes mis-sold PPI with evidence of high pressure sales techniques and the administration of PPI is sometimes slow and unfair. This document looks at these complaints and attempts to predict the outcome of the OFT enquiry into Payment Protection Insurance.

Problems with Payment Protection Insurance

PPI can be applied to a number of credit products including mortgages, unsecured loans and credit and store cards. It is sold almost exclusively as a secondary product, typically introduced and sold to the consumer at the point of sale of the credit agreement. A recent FSA report, and the Competition Commission's provisional findings report in its store cards market inquiry, noted that consumers do not shop around for PPI and in general have little understanding of PPI pricing, alternatives or product attributes. So one of the problems is that people shop around looking at the headline interest rate of a loan, but fail to even think about looking for an alternative PPI provider.

The number of people making a claim, the 'claims ratio', against PPI is estimated to be between 15 and 20 per cent. This figure is supported by work carried out by Credit Suisse First Boston and is markedly lower than for other types of general insurance (for example, house and car insurance). Whether this is due to limitations within the policies or down to something else is difficult to establish.

The nature of the way the product is sold, at point of sale with the consumer focusing on the primary credit product rather than the secondary PPI product, limits the potential for stand-alone providers to attract customers. During its research the OFT came across few suppliers of stand-alone products. Where they do exist they tend to focus on mortgage PPI (MPPI). The OFT spoke to companies in the insurance sector and they indicated that a number of insurers have tried to enter the stand-alone market in the past but found the product was not financially viable.

The OFT has talked about breaking down the credit insurance market into different sectors and its early observations suggest that MPPI, for example, differs from the rest of PPI, with a distribution chain more likely to include brokers and stand-alone providers and monthly premiums rather than upfront single premiums. MPPI also faces competition from alternative protection products such as critical illness insurance, income protection insurance and permanent health insurance.

The FSA has also been investigating PPI and has found some firms failing to take reasonable steps to ensure customers did not buy policies on which they could not claim or which provide only limited cover. It also discovered there were inadequate controls in place for non-advised sales: some firms selling on a non-advised basis did not have adequate systems to stop their staff giving advice. The FSA also found advice on PPI was likely to be of poor quality - there was a failure to assess suitability adequately. Documentation setting out reasons for a recommendation was too generalised and did not take into account a customer's specific requirements or circumstances. They also discovered the level and structure of inducements and targets for sales staff could encourage mis-selling in some firms.

The FSA was particularly concerned about single premium policies. Information on interest was not disclosed, insufficient information was given on the lack of refunds, and in some cases misleading comparisons were made between single and regular premiums in favour of single premiums. When the FSA talks about this it is talking about the front-loading of the insurance cost onto the principle loan amount, so that it too is subject to interest. The FSA found that disclosure documentation on PPI was often of poor quality and unhelpful. Information relating to single premium policies raised particular concerns - information on interest not disclosed as is required under FSA rules, insufficient information on the lack of refunds, and in some cases misleading comparisons between single and regular premiums in favour of single premiums. The evidence from the CAB found that consumers are not sufficiently aware of exclusions and cancellation rights.

When the CAB made its complaint to the OFT it was aware that the FSA and not the OFT is responsible for the regulation of PPI. The problem is that PPI straddles both the FSA and OFT and they recognise the need for a joint strategy. The OFT has said it will not grant or will revoke Consumer Credit Licenses where they find that there is mis-selling of PPI.

During the OFT's consultation on this super-complaint, a common theme put to them by the industry was that the introduction of insurance conduct of business (ICOB) regulations in January 2005 22 had led to significant changes in the sale of PPI, which should have reduced the likelihood of complaints such as those set out in CABs report.

Conclusion

It is more or less certain that the current investigation by the OFT (and FSA) into PPI will result in changes in policy and regulation. It is also predicted that the OFT will publish some documents to increase consumer awareness about shopping around, cancellation rights and understanding the small print in their policies. It is also believed the OFT, rather than producing concrete policy, will encourage firms to take voluntary action and persuade them to create a consumer code of practice. In extreme cases the OFT will probably enforce action against companies suspected of breaching consumer law or competition law,

Alert Your Kids To Spyware

If you share a computer with your kids, you are highly exposed to spyware threats. Spyware lurks around, waiting to take advantage of kids and teenagers' browsing habits. An antispyware and adware removal tool is your means to protect your machine. Educate your kids about spyware.

An antispyware and adware removal tool is essential for every computer, more so on the ones kids use. When children browse, Spyware preys on the surfing behavior of children, especially teens. When they download various programs these Trojans come bundled in it. A good example of this is the peer-to-peer music sharing programs, free games online, free screen savers and several song lyric sites that kids frequent. But if you educate your kids about spyware, and use antispyware software, you can fight spyware effectively.

The Things Spyware Does

Spyware can just invade your system and hijack your web browser. The sites that kids usually visit site trigger off endless popup windows on Internet Explorer and that's when you know you've been hit. This results in the slowing down or crashing of your pc. When your pc is infested with adware, it turns unstable and behaves strangely. Some forms of spyware called key loggers or dialers can automatically make expensive long distance calls or track everything you do by logging your keystrokes. This steals private information and passwords, not to mention credit card information.

Spyware Prefers Teenagers

More than the little kids, it's the teenagers that attract spyware more because of their browsing habits. Most of the sites they browse are full of free stuff. You pay the price with spyware. The peer-to-peer sharing network is the worst because these sites do not have any kind of antispyware policy and are fair game for spyware vendors. Teenagers are attracted by the freebies offered especially on sites that have to do with celebrities and entertainment. Added to these are the downloadable games, free emoticons and other stuff.

You must advise your kids that it is dangerous to download any thing from unknown sites. Tell them to beware of pop up windows that promise to clean up or scan your pc. They must know about companies that claim to sell antispyware but actually just lodge spyware into your system. Therefore it is necessary that you purchase antispyware software from a reliable company.

No Such Thing As A Free Download

The irony of the issue is that the spyware that proliferates in your pc is there because you agreed to it, without knowing you did. Kids get excited about getting free stuff, little knowing that they are consenting to install spyware and adware. Spyware is difficult to identify and by the time you realize it, it is too late. The best thing to do is to build awareness among your kids and encourage safe browsing and downloading patterns. Ensure that antispyware and adware removal tools protect your pc always.

Beat the Fall and Winter Blues with Exercise!

Introduction

Its that time of year again. The temperature is dropping. The nights are getting longer and the days are getting shorter. People during this time of year tend to sleep more, lose interest in physical activity, gain weight, experience more frequent bouts of anxiety and depression, and socially isolate themselves. Dont let that be you this year! In the following article, I am going to discuss some ways you can beat the blues with exercise and the benefits you will experience.

First Things First

The first thing you need to do is obtain a medical clearance from you doctor to make sure it is safe for you to exercise. Exercise is meant to be a benefit to you, but if you use it incorrectly, you will end up worse off than before you started.

Set Goals Using the Smart Principle

SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and tangible.

A. Specific: Answer who, what, when, where, and why. Who is involved, what do you want to accomplish, when do you want to accomplish it by, where is the location, why are you doing this, the purpose or benefits of the set goal.

B. Measurable: You must measure your progress. For instance, how many pounds have you lost, how many inches have you lost, how much body fat have you lost.

C. Attainable: You must be able and willing to attain your goal. When you do this, you develop the attitude, skills, and abilities to attain your goal!

D. Realistic: A high goal is much easier to reach then a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force.

E. Tangible: Something tangible is experienced through the five senses; seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, or touching. Can you feel your clothes fitting loosely, can you see the physical changes in your body when you look in the mirror, can you feel how wonderful it is knowing you look so good in front of your friends and family?!

Accomplishing your goals will help you master yourself and give you a higher sense of self worth.

Stay Consistent

You can only benefit by exercise by staying consistent. Allow yourself time each day to do some kind of physical activity. If your time schedule is tight, break it up into segments of ten minutes for example. Consistency makes you more productive. The more productive you are, the more you will accomplish.

Strength Train

Strength training has many benefits for you. Having a better looking body will help you increase your self image and self esteem. If you tend to gain weight this time of year, the increased muscle mass will help aid those unwanted pounds by boosting your metabolism. You will also have an increase in energy so you will not feel so lethargic all the time and be tempted to sleep so much. If you tend to get sick this time of year, strength training will help boost your immune system. Remember to strength train to your level of fitness.

Do Your Cardio!

Cardiovascular exercise holds many benefits for you. It is great for relieving stress! You can run or walk your pent up frustrations, disappointments, and anger off. You will have more clarity after a bout of aerobic exercise. Cardiovascular exercise increases your metabolism. It will help you control the body weight normally gained this time of year. Your heart will become stronger. You can lower your blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart attack risks through regular aerobic exercise.

Dont Do It Alone

Your goals should be individualistic. However, exercising is something you shouldnt keep only for yourself. If you are beginning to exercise, why dont you find a fitness buddy? Maybe there is a friend or family member that does not exercise. You will be giving them the gift of health. Plus, you can hold each other accountable for your fitness goals. If that doesnt work for you, attend a group exercise class. Group exercises classes are a great place to make new friends, learn new exercises, and relieve stress. There are dozens of classes offered so go after what interests you.

Summary

By now you should clearly see all the benefits regular strength training and cardiovascular exercise can bring you. I want you to encourage you today to reach and aim high for your goals. Nothing is holding you back. Take a step of faith and find the world of opportunities that will open up to you.

Writing Success: What Does It Mean To You?

Like most creative professions the question of a qualified success in writing is not easy to concentrate into one definitive answer.

Just as there are a multitude of writing styles, so too are there many examples of writing success.

Examples

1. "If I can just finish my first story, I will have success."
2. "If I can just work up the courage to submit this to a publisher, I will have success."
3. "If I can actually receive a check in the mail for a magazine article, I will have success."
4. "If I can just publish my first book, I will have success."
5. "If I can just have my book published by a major publisher, I will have success."
6. "If I can just get my book in the bestseller list, I will have success."
7. "If I can just keep up with all the writing work I have been commissioned to do, I will have success."
8. "If I can only be thought of in the same way as other literary giants, I will have success."

"The secret of contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have, and to be able to lose all desire for things beyond your reach." Lin Yu-t'ang

There is a difference between contentment and complacency. In the first case, we learn to be happy in the circumstances we find ourselves in. In the second case, you simply settle for where you are without an interest in doing something more.

"A man will never be content with what he wants until he is content with what he has." - Bill Gothard

As writers we should always reach for our best. It is a good idea to set a small attainable goal for the short term with perhaps a one and six year plan in place for where we would like to be. This goal can be readjusted annually.

The problem many writers have is they set their goals so high they may not be able to reach them, or they make the goal sacrosanct they miss out on life in pursuit of the goal. Should they actually reach the goal, the effect of reaching the pinnacle often serves as a pin to pop an inflated balloon. For some, the ultimate goal they have chosen leaves them feeling hollow because they never understood the need for contentment. Once the 'ultimate goal' is realized the author has nothing more to look forward to and they struggle through issues related to their overall motivation.

By learning the fine art of contentment while refusing to be complacent will serve you well as you wrestle with issues of personal writing success.

The Symptoms of Pregnancy With Twins

If your pregnancy symptoms are earlier and more pronounced than you'd normally expect, you may be carrying a twin pregnancy. However, only a health professional can tell for sure.

1. You just feel that you are carrying more than one baby. Some mothers of twins (or higher order multiples) say that they knew right from the start that they were carrying more than one baby.

2. You experience more nausea and/or morning sickness. If you are having more than one baby, you may have an elevated hCG level (hCG is a pregnancy related hormone). This hormone is the one associated with morning sickness.

3. Other typical pregnancy symptoms may be exaggerated. Many women -- but not all -- who are pregnant with twins have more intense pregnancy symptoms, probably related to the extra hormones circulating through their system. You may find that your breasts are extremely tender, you have to urinate frequently, you are hungry all the time and you are always very tired.

4. A higher than average weight gain in the first 16 weeks may be your first clue that you're carrying more than one baby. Good weight gain in early twin pregnancy is associated with a favourable outcome.

With each additional fetus a woman carries, the range of weight gain will increase. For example, a woman who starts a pregnancy in a healthy weight range might expect her weight gain to be as follows:

One fetus, 11 kg (24 lb) to 16 kg (35 lb)
Twins, 16 kg (35 lb) to 20 kg (44 lb)
Triplets, 20 kg (44 lb) to 23 kg (51 lb)
Quads, 23 kg (51 lb) to 25 kg (55 lb)

5. Your uterus seems large for gestational age. If your last menstrual period indicates an eight-week gestation, your uterus may feel more like 10 to 12 weeks to your obstetrician. This may prompt a request for an ultrasound examination.

6. You are told that you have elevated levels of AFP. AFP is one of the chemicals tested to screen for Downs syndrome and spina bifida abnormalities. AFP levels are higher in twin pregnancies.

7. Your health care provider hears two fetal heartbeats. Two separate heartbeats can be distinguishable with a Doppler in your care provider's office from around 18 weeks. At around 28 weeks, it may be possible to differentiate two fetal heads and multiple small parts when doing an abdominal exam.

8. You have a positive ultrasound. If you believe you are pregnant with twins, an ultrasound can be performed quite early in pregnancy. With a skilled ultrasonographer, two gestational sacs, two embryos and two distinct fetal heartbeats can be seen six weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. Many twins have been diagnosed as early as five weeks -- when you're just one week late for your menstrual period.

9. In later pregnancy, you may experience difficulty catching your breath, swelling (oedema) of the hands and legs, an unusual rate of weight gain and abdominal enlargement and excessive fetal movement. Anaemia or low iron (decreased haemoglobin) is also common with twin and multiple pregnancies.

10. There is considerable disagreement among medical professionals as to whether a woman carrying twins is more likely to feel movement earlier. But many mothers do claim that those early flutters and flips were their first clue that they might be having more than one.

What Does a Registry Cleaner Do ?

A registry cleaner scans the system for obsolete files and links and deletes them from the system registry to make the system run faster and more efficiently.

The registry was designed to speed up the operating system but this very intention and design by Microsoft could prove detrimental to your system is the registry is not serviced and maintained by regularly using a good registry cleaner software to clean the registry of useless entries that are slowing down the system and taking up disk space.

There are many registry cleaners such as the PC Mantra's registry cleaner, the PC registry cleaner and the Windows XP registry cleaner that can spruce up your system and make it much more enjoyable to use. Registry cleaner software, as any registry cleaner software, scans the system and traces obsolete or outdated data. Then after determining the good from the bad the registry cleaner deletes the redundant data enabling your PC to perform error free and more efficiently than before running the registry cleaner.

Ensure The Registry Cleaner Has A Good Backup Function

Before using a registry cleaner it is of paramount importance to ensure if the software has a registry backup function. This is important because in case the cleaner goes wrong the system will crash and will need to be restored with this backup to get the system back to its previous level of functioning. This can occur if the registry cleaner inadvertently deletes some file in the registry. You can download a free version of any registry cleaner or a trial version. However, a free or trial version will not have all the features enabled in the download so it is always good to have a licensed version of the registry cleaner software. In fact it is always good to have a licensed version of any software to keep your system running error free and efficiently.

A corrupted Registry Will Crash The System

If the registry of an operating system is damaged or corrupted the entire system will crash or become very unstable. This could render the system unusable. So, the registry is a vital part of the computer that has to be kept in very good working condition. If this part of the computer gets filled with trash, such as broken links caused by uninstalling software and not removing the entries from the registry, or outdated entries that do not need to be there the whole system will slow down drastically. Believe it or not a single day on the system can enter more than a thousand entries in the registry. Forty percent of which will be useless after the days work is done. These entries will have to be removed with the help of a good registry cleaner. Though a few thousand entries will have no significant effect on the system they will over a period of time.

How To Make A Screencast

Screencast

Screencast is a digital recording of computer screens, full screens or screen regions and usually comes with an audio narration to describe the on-screen actions. The term screencast dates back to 2004 with an interesting story.

In 2004, a columnist Jon Udell invited readers of his blog to propose names for the emerging genre. In all the suggested terms, Udell selected screencast, which was proposed by both Joseph McDonald and Deeje Cooley. His "Heavy metal umlaut" screencast is a well-known example - which explains how Wikipedia works.

http://weblog.infoworld.com/udell/gems/umlaut.html

Since then, the term screen has be known by more people and the use of screencasts has itself become more popular. Currently the new trend of screencast is documentary filmmaking of software-based social networking services like Wikipedia, del.icio.us. or digg.

In This Article

1. Screencast Types
2. Screencasting Tools
3. Guide Lines of making a screencast

Screencast Types

Product Tutorials: The screencast tells users how to use a software application or service by showing screen introductions. Usually, there is a recorded voice over to walk through the steps.

See examples below

Cracking WEB in 10 Minutes

http://userportal.iha.dk/~02882/Whoppix-wepcrack.swf

Short How-to: This kind of screencast usually is often short and demonstrate a simple guide or gives tips and tricks to solve a small problem or dig into a product feature.

See example below

Better use of Window s Search Feature

http://weblog.infoworld.com/udell/2005/01/25.html#a1157

Conversational Demos:

Conversational demos has more focus on the conversion rather than the screens. Usually, there are two voices for the screen. Often one is asking question about the screen and another gives the answer.

Software review:

If you are asked for writing a software review , you can always make a screencast to highlight some features.

User produced demo:

Some software applications are difficult to use and you sometimes have some unexpected troubles. Making a screencast to explain will help you a lot when you are talking to the technical support. You can even make you troubleshooting demo to share with your friends and families.

Of course, there are more types has not yet included in this article.

Screencasting Tools

For Window Users

Windows Media Encoder - Free but with high system requirements

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Windows_Media_Encoder

Wondershare DemoCreator - Flash-based Screen Recorder

http://www.sameshow.com/demo-creator.html

For Mac Users

Snapz Pro X

http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/

Guide Lines of making a screencast

1. Know what you want to present

First and foremost, You'll need to have an idea about what you'll present, and you'll need to figure out which platform to use. Knowing your purposes of making a screecast is the first to come.

2. Make it real

Always to make a screencast in real and substantial scene. For example, it is for software demonstration or a network monitor, then work with the software or live network.

Of course , for reasons of logistics or security, this isn't always possible. But the more real we can make it, the better.

3. Interactivity is important

Interactivity engages viewers through the demo. If your screecast is just screen by screen, your viewers will leave soon. You can and Id argue you should record narration or insert background music to the screencast. Usually, some screencasting tools like DemoCreator enable you to add some visual aids to the captured screens like callouts, shapes, annotation buttons and animated images. Note that when a screencast is interactive it will engage the viewers in a conversation that steers it into unexpected areas.

Market Cycles: How To Thrive In Different Market Conditions.

Every market goes through trading cycles. There is no exception to this. Be it the Stock Market, The Futures or the Forex market. They all go through different phases. In this brief article, I wish to point out the different phases in the Forex market, identifying which, will help the trader know when to stay in the market and when to stay out.

Range Days: Historically, it has been seen that nearly 80% of the time, the market stays in a range. Range days are when the currency stays at a certain price limit and trades within it. For example, on a typical range day, the GBPUSD will stay within a low of 1.9600 to a high of 1.9675. This maybe the case for a day or, at times continue the whole week before a breakout appears. This is also called as “Calm before a Storm”.

Rally Days: Again, historical studies have proved that the market rallies only about 20% of the time and when it does, it creates new trends and levels. Rally days usually happen when price breaks out of the range and establishes a new high or low.

Strange Days: Strange days are those days when the market hardly moves at all. It is as if the financial world is on a vacation and simply not interested in trading. This is a rare phenomenon, yet is one of the phases of the market. Usually, when a market is well below the usual daily range, it is classified as Strange Days.

Here is a bit of statistics to help understand the market phases better. I have listed below, the 4 major pairs and their daily average range.

GBPUSD - 122 pips Daily Range

EURUSD - 84 pips Daily Range

USDCHF - 96 pips Daily Range

USDJPY - 78 pips Daily Range

In the above examples, when a pair falls below the daily movement, it is considered to be ranging and when it is way below it, it is considered to have entered the unknown land. If analyzed over a week, Range days occur at least 3 times a week. Generally 70-80% of the Mondays are ranging days.

Similarly, Rally days occur when price is above the normal daily range and happens only about 20% of the time in a week. The best day in the week is Tuesday, followed by Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday, historically has had the best rally days.

Again, strange days occur less than often, and when price stays well below the range and when there is little movement. They happen, once or twice a month and are times when one should stay out of the market.

Lastly, I should add that the best days to trade are Tuesday and Wednesday followed by Thursday and the days to avoid trading are Monday and Friday.

Writing Effective Benefits Statements

How to turn features into compelling benefits that matter to customers

One of the most common trap the marketing folks get into when working on technical products is focusing on the features of a product rather than the benefits to the end user. Features are great - we all want to know what is in a product and want to be able to compare it to other products. But at the same time there are many features that, while the benefits may be obvious to the Marketer or Product Manager working on them, may leave potential customers wondering why they matter.

Here's an example. Back when I was the Product Manager for the Human Interface for the MacOS at Apple, the company would routinely release new technologies with each operating system release. Since many of these technologies were very "cool" by technology standards they would get talked about as feature. A few examples include QuickDraw GX and QuickTime.

Now for those of us who are more technical geeks, or for those who followed what Apple was doing we immediately understood what Apple meant when they said "includes the new QuickDraw GX graphics and printing architecture and version 2.0 of QuickTime". But for the other 99.999% of the world, stating some benefits would have answered the age old question of "So why should I care" (and "So why should I upgrade").

When writing effective benefits statements think of the phrase "Which means that you can". What do I mean by this? To give you an idea I'll use the 280 Group as an example (this is the part of the article where we do the shameless self-promotion).

One of the "Features" that we promote is that we provide "Hand Picked Marketing & Product Management Consultants and Contractors". On its own you might say "So What?", but here's the benefit statement.

FEATURE:

"Hand Picked Marketing & Product Management Consultants and Contractors"

Which means that you can

BENEFIT

"save the time and hassle of doing the work yourself to find a qualified consultant, check their references, etc."

Here's another example:

FEATURE:

"Seasoned Professional and Experienced Consultants"

Which means that you can

BENEFIT

"rest assured that you will have a committed and professional resource to see the project all the way through and get excellent results."

The "Which means that you can" phrase helps bring out the real value to your customers. They don't care about technology or features if there isn't an associated benefit to them. This may seem like Marketing 101, but it is amazing how many people neglect this when writing their marketing content.

To wrap up, let's go back to the Apple example. Now if I told you that you should upgrade to the newest version of the MacOS because you'll get QuickTime 2.0, which means that can watch movies on your computer that are twice as big and are much higher quality, would you be a little more prone to want to upgrade?

Dont Get Cut-up Over Second Rate Cutlery! Choose The Right Cutlery For You

So, youve cooked the perfect roast, chilled the wine and prepared the hors d'oeuvres. All you need to do now is set the table, then relax and wait for your guests to arrive. Do you go to your kitchen drawers to take out gleaming stylish silver cutlery to set the table with?

Or are you faced with dull, old-fashioned, mismatched forks and knives that simply look dreadful on your dining room table? Sadly too often our hard work and effort in the kitchen is undone when we go to set the table. After all, pulling off that truly exceptional dinner party or family gathering takes more than simply cooking wonderful food. Overall elegance and attention to detail can turn even the most basic meal into a chic, memorable evening!

When it comes to choosing the perfect cutlery set, there is no shortage of different styles, materials and costs. Selecting the right set depends on your needs and likely uses. For example, if you merely want a strong and durable cutlery set for the family, then opting for a strong, no frills stainless steel makes sense.

On the other hand, if you are planning to use your cutlery for special occasions, you will obviously want something a little more distinctive. In actual fact, most families will have two sets of cutlery one for everyday use and one for those special moments in life.

In the kitchen and in the dining room itself, you need to have good quality cooking cutlery. For instance, when cared for properly, a quality set of kitchen knives should last a lifetime. Bear in mind, that each knife has a particular usage and with so many styles of kitchen knives available, there is something for every kitchen setting.

Many people select cutlery in classic, readily available designs. That way, if one piece of cutlery is lost, the entire set is not compromised because it can be replaced. While other one-off exclusive cutlery sets are wonderful, you do run the risk of not being able to find replacement items.

Whether you are looking for traditional silver, durable stainless steel, or funkier designs that incorporate plastic or glass, there is so much choice when it comes to cutlery that you are bound to find something that fits your style and purposes.

Does It Really Matter Whom I Buy My Security System From?

Well, could it really make a difference?

Here are a few things to think about:

* Are they properly licensed as a low voltage company in your state & fully insured with liability & Workman's comp? (Have them send a fax copy of proof of insurance)

* Will all workers (Including subcontractors) that may enter my home or business be covered by this insurance?

* Are there any complaints registered with the Better Business Bureau regarding their work?

* What professional organizations do they belong to?

* Do they only give away FREE systemsor can you buy the system outright & have whomever you choose monitor it?

* Most security system companies don't make the majority of their profit from selling security systems; instead it comes from the monitoring contract. That is why they are so willing to give them away for "FREE". (I am not saying there is anything wrong with choosing a "FREE" system. In fact, depending on your circumstances, sometimes it just makes sense. However I just wanted you to be aware of this.) Always ask if they offer the option to buy the system outright and monitor it without a contract.

* Did you know that monitoring contracts can be so profitable that there are business plans written that are entirely based on simply buying and selling monitoring contracts?

* So the question is: You may know who is monitoring your home security system today...but who will be monitoring it tomorrow?

* There is a big difference between an authorized alarm dealer ....and just another marketing company. Marketing companies know just the right words on how to make an unbelievable offer on a home security system simply irresistible. But remember this, their goal is often to "quick flip" or sell your contract at a profit. So what kind of customer service do you think you will get down the road when you have a problem, or worse yet a break in?

* So always ask up front...are you an authorized alarm dealer?

* And , will you be selling my alarm monitoring contract in the future?

* Who will be warranting my home security system?

* How long is the warrantee? (A new security system should be warranted for a minimum of 12 months)

* If there is a problem after the warrantee expires...whom do I call & how much will it cost to have a technician evaluate my problem?

* When I call in for customer service issues...will I get to talk to a live person...or just a machine?

* Can my new equipment be monitored by anybody...or is it "Proprietary equipment" (In other words, will the equipment ONLY work with their monitoring services only?)

* Will my home be monitored by a "local" monitoring company...or a "National " one?

If they even hesitate for a moment...you may want to keep on looking for the right home security system consultant to work with.

This Career Will Be Around for a LONG Time

We all dread the word "downsizing" as we look at our careers. As a former consumer investigative reporter for Post Newsweek TV, I am always looking for real opportunities in the career field that offer longevity. This is one that fits that category.

The new career opportunity that I discussed with Howard Williams is one that is both physically and mentally challenging as you will learn.

You see Howard is one the leading USA storm adjusters and has been involved in the field for over 35 years. Recently I had a chance to sit down with Howard and discuss his years as a storm adjuster.

Hugh: Howard, what exactly is a storm adjuster and what do you do?

Howard: When a major storm or other catastrophe hits anywhere in the country and the claims load is larger than the local adjusters can handle, the insurance companies turn to a core group of storm adjusters. These adjusters are available to respond to disasters wherever they are and whenever they are needed. Working as an extension of insurance company's claims department, adjusters assist the company's policyholders in evaluating and preparing their claims for damages.

Hugh: I think that you have created a slogan that pretty well says it: Going where needed, when needed.

Howard: Yes, that is true and it has certainly been true in my case. In the past 35 years I have been to almost every natural disaster and even several man-made ones that have made the headlines in the United States. Most recently I spent six months in the Hurricane Katrina ravaged areas of Mississippi and Alabama.

Hugh: Six months?

Howard: Yes, I was there in the area for six months except for coming back home several weekends. That is one of the requirements of this profession. You must be able to go any time and any where they need you. For instance, with Katrina I was on the road heading to Mississippi as soon as the roads were open for rescue trucks to get in there. I arrived there to find no motel rooms available in either Mississippi or Alabama. I finally found a condo that I was able to rent in the panhandle of Florida. Therefore I had to make that long trip daily back and forth. So you have to know how to take care of yourself and I credit a great deal of that ability to my former police training.

Hugh: Yes, I knew that you had been a police officer in your earlier years. What other training have you found valuable?

Howard: As you know I'm also a personal coach and that training has been immensely valuable. For instance, in Florida, when I have worked the big hurricanes like Andrew I have found numerous senior citizens who were in a total state of shock. I would arrive at their homes to find them sitting in living rooms that had no roofs with water soaked carpets. Many had no one to turn to since their neighbors were too busy taking care of their own problems. So the first item of business is for me to get them out of that house. I want to get them into a nice clean, dry motel room if possible.

Hugh, you have to learn to EMPATHIZE with their situation and not get caught up in the drama going on. That's where my personal coach training has been invaluable. Most storm adjusters either are too business like or they get caught up in the drama happening. You want to help but you still have to focus on the situation determining the damage done to their dwelling.

Hugh: So what do you do to determine that damage?

Howard: This is where you have to use your skills of estimating and also having a background in construction certainly does not hurt. I have to begin to look at the overall situation to determine what has been damaged by water and what has been damaged by wind. As you are aware as a consumer investigative reporter, there have been numerous stories in the media regarding this with Hurricane Katrina victims. No one seems to understand that certain damages are not covered by insurance.

Estimating and surveying the damage is where it can get very interesting. You may find yourself climbing up to a roof to explore damage and the next minute find yourself crashing through that roof! It has happen to me. Also usually in areas like Mississippi you are likely to find numerous snakes beginning to take up residence in the houses. Not to mention the heat that usually returns after the storm.

Hugh: Well with my fear of heights over 10 feet this is certainly not something that I would do well with.

Howard: That's where a husband/wife team comes in real handy. We find a number of husband/wife teams in storm adjusting. Usually, but not always, the husband will do the climbing and the wife will write down the findings. Both need to know how to estimate and a background in construction is a plus"

Hugh: Well, I'm sure people reading this interview will want to know: 'How much can one make in this business?'

Howard: This can be a very lucrative career especially if you are doing major events like Katrina. I earned in the neighborhood of $120,000 for the six months work.

Hugh: WOW, $120,000 for six months work?

Howard: Yes, when you learn the ropes like I will be teaching at my new school in North Carolina, it is possible to eventually be earning that amount for six months work. And both fortunately and unfortunately, this type of work will not have any downsizing in the near future.

Hugh: Yes, as you know I also own an emergency preparedness consulting business. Our reports from Max Mayfield, chief meteorologist for the National Hurricane Center, are that the powerful hurricanes like Katrina will increase in number over the next ten years.

Howard: Yes, and that is just hurricanes. Think of all the earthquakes, tornadoes, wild fires, wind storms, floods, etc. occurring in the United States every year. According to our industry association there will be a need for 1,000 new storm adjusters in 2007 alone.

Hugh: Howard, you mentioned your new school. Tell us more about it and how people reading this interview can learn more.

Howard: Yes, I have decided to take my 35 years of experience in storm adjusting and offer a two week school for those looking for a new career. Also I will be sharing all the updated information in this field from my recent classes that I have attended. A person taking this course will learn about estimating, construction information that can make their job easier (I want to assure people that you do NOT have to have a background in construction to apply), writing the reports, communicating and working with the insurance companies, etc. For those that would like to learn more they can visit our web site at http://www.stormadjusterschool.com and after reading if interested can contact me at stormboss@earthlink.net.

Knitting Machine Bargains for You

A growing number of women (and even more than a few men) have taken an interest in handmade fashions. In this regard, many people have become involved in the creation of their own clothing and apparel items, including knitted garments like sweaters and the like. As a result, with more and more people taking a keen interest in knitting and similar types of clothing creation techniques, knitting machines are in greater demand today than at any other time in history.

A Look at Knitting Machines

Even though you may have had some exposure to garment making and knitting, you may not really know all that much about knitting machines. In the simplest of terms, knitting machines are mechanical devices that do precisely what their moniker implies: these machines knit.

The brilliance of the knitting machine is that it does knit at a very fast pace. A typical, modern knitting machine can do anywhere from 600 to 1,200 stitches per minute. (Perhaps the experienced, typical hand knitter can manage 25 to 30 stitches in a sixty second period of time.)

In other words, a person can knit an entire sweater in a relatively short period of time through the use of an automated knitting machine. A person actually could outfit an entire wardrobe in very little time thanks to the smooth running mechanics of knitting machines that are on the market today.

Whats New, Whats Happening in Regard to 21st Century Knitting Machines

In part because more and more people are taking an interest in knitting and knitting machines, there have been some remarkable advances made in regard to these pieces of equipment over the course of the past decade. Of course, ever increasing speed (as has been discussed previously) is one of the major areas of knitting machine development over the course of the past ten years.

Another development associated with knitting machines has been a reduction in the size of these devices. Because of the happenings associated with knitting machines in the 21st century is the expanded interest in these devices, there are now groups of people who come together to further their interest in knitting and in knitting machines. There are now knitting machines that are small enough to be carried from place to place with relative ease.

Newly developed knitting machines also come with a wide variety of needles and other options to allow a person the ability to create all types of apparel items. In other words, knitting machines are now designed in such a way to allow you the ability to keep up with latest trends in fashions and not have to invest in costly equipment to do so.

Finding Bargains on Knitting Machines

If you are like many people who are interested in buying a knitting machine, you may also be interested in finding ways in which you can save money on a knitting machine. Fortunately, there are some option available to you.

One key option that you will want to closely consider when it comes to finding a knitting machine at a bargain price is a visit to and around knittingmachinebargains.com. When all is said and done, there is not website on the Internet and World Wide Web that can provide you with better deals and more options when it comes to the very best in knitting machines and the most reasonable prices around. Cost Cutting Tips For Brides

One of the biggest expenses of any wedding ceremonies and receptions is usually the florist. If you go with smaller, usually family owned florists, lots of times you'll find you can get a much better deal. A good place to start looking is the local market, where small florists often have booths or small shops set up.

Always use the term "family gathering" whenever possible in your search for wedding services and suppliers. For reasons unknown to brides everywhere, the price of the same product or service always seems to be about 50% higher for a "wedding" despite no other differences being readily apparent. This is almost always true for caterers.

Try to get a caterer who will let you supply the cake yourself. The cake tends to be the most expensive food item and you can almost always get something much less expensive (and something much better!) at your local bakery. Supermarkets can also be a smart place to look if your local supermarkets have their own bakeries.

Some brides actually forget about the caterer altogether. If you have several family members who are willing to help out and have a little culinary skill it's not too difficult to throw together a professional quality buffet. An important tip is to concentrate on cold foods such as rolled meats, cheeses, salads and even sandwiches or heros.

Take a look in all the the local department stores and bridal shops for clearance bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. You'd be surprised what you can find. There are some really good deals waiting to be had if you're a little flexible. For instance, did you know that the bridesmaids dresses don't all have to match? If you can put together a good theme, you can do anything you like and it will look great.

Also, don't forget to ask around. You never know when you'll discover that your cousin's boyfriend's uncle owns a catering business or a flower shop, and those types of connections can sometimes get you better deals than you'll find anywhere else.

US Subprime Market - Is the worst yet to come?

With the bubble bursting on subprime mortgages, analysts expect a significant fall in growth in the second half of 2007, with the worst yet to come

The first signs that the bubble was about to burst on the United States housing bubble of the last decade or so was the sharp fall of the US stock market. It fell sharply as the subprime mortgage crisis began its inevitable spill into the broad financial markets.

Two hedge funds run by a leading New York broker began to shows signs of serious trouble as a result of their heavy exposure to subprime mortgages. Eventually the company had simply no option but to prop up the funds from their own capital. The feelings in capital markets were that the possibility of write-downs of securities backed by subprime mortgages at other institutions would become a very strong reality which would in turn become a genuine threat to other parts of the economy.

The cost of borrowing is beginning to rise steadily and consumers are caught in a difficult position as their one major asset in their lives;their home, is making the steady slip between being an asset to a liability.

Analysts generally concur that for a long time house prices have raised to a level where they far outstrip any logical relationship to what people earn or what they will return in rental income. Nowadays the average rental cost per square foot is half what it takes to repay a mortgage.

In the glory days of the property boom, consumers were encouraged to buy properties and borrow too much money. Mortgage banks were happy to lend money and asked for very little equity in the property as security. Sometimes as low as 10%.

Ask yourself what kind of banker would do such as thing? One who could then sell on these mortgages in a block to hedge funds, where the securities were backed by these shaky mortgages. It was a win/win situation then.

The consumer enjoyed the security of “owning “their own property, the mortgage banks earned a nice commission on selling the mortgage and the hedge funds were able to sit on blocks loans on secured assets.

Now that the dust has begun to settle on this fiasco, analysts fear that a trillion dollars in mortgage loans out there will not be repaid. This means foreclosures, and a glut of property on the market, Mortgage banks are now battening down the hatches, demanding equity of 30-40% and considerably higher and fixed interest rates for new borrowers. This trend is expected to continue for at least the next five years.

In the short term, financial forecasters predict that the US economy will face a major uphill struggle to achieve the 2-1/2 to 3 percent growth rate had aimed for in the second half of 2007. The new forecast is a growth rate of less than two percent for that period, largely as a result of a major fall in consumer spending.

With an election year in the offing, democratic congressmen are pushing a proposal to” bail out” subprime borrowers on humane grounds. Many of these home owners are now approaching retirement age. Statistics show that around a third of them have no form of pension and were dependent on the “profits” from the sale of their property, as it would allow them to take care of themselves in their golden years. Now they are faced with the reality of having lost their equity, and may be both homeless and on the poverty line.

Whether the US government can turn their back on these people remains to be seen. If Congress decides to step in and underwrite the bulk of the projected bad debt, then austere times indeed are expected for the US economy.
